… on August 21, that may be the only acceptable reason you have not to make it to the Justice League’s impending and muy mysterioso street food party here in Denver. Happily, you can indulge in one of the richest and most vibrant street food scenes in the country by hitting up this fantastic looking shindig: the 2010 San Francisco Street Food Festival, put on by La Cocina, a non-profit that supports food entrepreneurs (really? Can we have one of those here, please?!). Note: I should not be reviewing the list of participating vendors after eating a too-small brown bag lunch! <drooling> My favorite part: the first listed sponsor of the event? Pepto Bismol. Perfect!
But wait! There’s more!
Street Food Conference
Of special note to local food vendors, though, is that for two days after the festival, these folks are hosting their first annual street food conference with moderated discussions covering everything from street food culture to the economic and urban planning implications of a growing street food movement. One panel discussion may be of grave import especially to vendors that aren’t backed by a brick-and-mortar restaurant. A session on Monday titled “Mobile Vendor Economic Policy” is described thusly:
Using the Bay Area as a case study, we will discuss the economic viability of the street food venture and its ability to produce a sustainable individual income.
Here’s hoping the outlook is good!
Thanks to Caleb at La Cocina for dropping me a line to let me know about this insane looking event. Hopefully, he’ll be willing to send us a note after the fact to let us know how it goes.
