I recently had the divine pleasure of tasting the sandwich you see pictured here. The Street Eats portabello mushroom sandwich on ciabatta. If you’re a vegetarian or even someone who tries to skip meat on occasion, I know what you’re thinking. “Another [expletive deleted] portabello sandwich?! Come on, people!” I mean, they’re tasty little bundles of goodness, don’t get me wrong. But from brewpubs to steakhouses, this workhorse of a fungus seems to be about all that so many heavily meaty menus have to offer a vegetarian. After 20+ years of this so frequently being my only option, I never expected find one that turned my head. Thank you to Street Eats for proving me wrong!
This thing was teeming with flavor! The ciabatta itself was great, the aoili was all sorts of lemony, and whatever they marinated that mushroom in was the bomb. And? Loads of basil. Dreamy.
To top it all off, they’ve got a damned fine spring roll on the menu, too. No tofu, but chock full of tasty veggies and herbs and served with a delicious peanut sauce.
