Fifteen food trucks, no music and no beer. For most this might not sound like much fun, but for street food junkies like you and me, Saturday’s Food Truck Showcase was a great time to focus on the food and just eat! With no lines and plenty of new-to-the-street vendors, the Showcase provided a chance to wander leisurely from truck to truck, peruse menus, chat up the crews and ask a few questions, and then decide what to eat. The lack of lines also gave us time to eat, relax, then come back for some more.
The event was held at Festival Plaza @ Mile Hi, a nondescript little parking lot at the corner of Colfax & Irving. The event coincided with a carnival of sorts being held on the lot next door, chock full of kids and bouncy castles, which drew a few more people to try our growing team of vendors’ amazing, mouthwatering offerings.
The vendors parked in a semi-circle with lots of space in front for patrons to mill about. Represented were Pinky the Cupcake Camper, Coaches Scoop , Mikes 2 Kitchen, Manna from Heaven, Chef Driven, Daisy from Cream City Treats, Epicurean Street Cuisine’s new wood-fired pizza trailer, Taco Bar, Alvie’s Eats, The Cozy Bean, The Bon Bon Buggy, NZ’s Smokin’ Guns, Fat Sully’s, & Sweet Lil’ Bakery (their first event!). We had to leave early due to a short but serious blast of rain (my camera does not like rain!), so we missed Route 40 Argentinian Grill. Apparently, they were selling like crazy at their morning Farmer’s Market gig and couldn’t bear to leave, so rolled in a little late. The Crock Spot & Street Eats had mechanical issues and were not able to attend.
We tried a Silician Blanco Pizza (Gorgonzola, Parma, Mozzarella Cheeses, Onions, & Garlic) from Epicurean, a trio of mouth watering tacos from the Taco Bar, a fantastic Cubano from Chef Driven, and Blue Raspberry Italian Ice and a Mixed Berry Sorbet from Coaches Scoops.
We also shared a bench with a family that totally LOVES Street Food (they try to hit all of the events). Mom & Dad are definitely doing some great teaching as the kids really love trying new foods and think that Mikes 2 Kitchen’s Mac & Cheese is the bomb!
According to Street Eats Rich and Mikes2’s Mike L, you can expect more of these great Street Food Showcases coming up this summer!
