Craving a good ol’ soup and sandwich lunch? MaxLunch has got you covered. While I’m a sucker for the exotic (arepas from El Caribe!) and novel (fried mac n cheese balls from Deluxe!), sometimes, I do get a hankering for an old fashioned lunch. Paris on the Platte has been the only mobile game in town for a tasty sandwich for a while – and you know how much I love Paris’ sandwiches, but a little variation ain’t a bad thing!
Great Lunch, Just a Little Fancy
MaxLunch is keeping it real with the tried and true lunchy offerings of soups and sandwiches, and kicking it up a notch with some great gourmet flair. And these sandwices are to die for. As a veg, it’s easy to get bored of the omnipresent portabello sandwich which is so often the only veggie item on a menu, but I figured I’d give MaxLunch’s take on the thing a chance and I’m glad I did! The bread was a homemade foccacia bun and just freaking perfect, and the sandwich was lusciously slathered in goat cheese and topped with greens. Tasty!
Because I have a really bad habit of glazing over the meaty options on menus (seriously – are there any omnivores reading that want to write for this site?!), I sent Max himself and email asking about what else is on the menu, and he wrote to let me know that this week they’ll be rolling out with
an unbelievable braised short rib sandwich with, caramelized onions, provolone cheese and horseradish… [and] a roasted chicken “BLT” with sharp cheddar, a really nice albacore tuna with capers, cornichones, Dijon aioli and balsamic, lettuce and tomato.
That all sounds freaking divine!
Soup Season!!
While it was a bit too warm to have a bowl of soup when I visited MaxLunch last week, I did take a taster of the garbanzo minestrone and instantly flashed forward to the cooler weeks ahead and daydreamed of making a regular lunch of this rich and satisfying soup. Garbanzos in minestrone! Not only is it delicious, but has the added bonus for those that need it of being gluten free. Brilliant!
When you find MaxLunch this week, they’ll have a variety of soups, including wild mushroom and beef, roasted chicken tortilla, and broccoli cheddar. For the veggies reading, I think that the broccoli cheddar has a chicken stock base. But here’s hoping that incredible minestrone is a regular feature!
Where to find ’em
MaxLunch will be one of the featured vendors at Civic Center Park serving lunch on Mondays, and of course they’ll be at Tiri’s Garden at 15th and California every Wednesday and Thursday. Keep an eye on their twitter feed and “like” them on Facebook to keep up with new menu items and schedule updates!
